I opened Empowered by Alex Counseling in an effort to empower others to live a life they have always wanted by learning to believe in themselves, their potential, and their ability to heal from past wounds. I want all of my clients to awaken their innate power that we all have inside of us. Society, upbringing, and life experience can often dim the internal light that we all have. I want to help you reach your dreams and feel like yourself again so that you can reach your goals, have healthy relationships, and feel confident when facing challenges. You deserve to feel your best and do your best! I enjoy working with teens, young adults, college students, and families.
I received my Master’s Degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and obtained my therapy hours from Grand Prairie ISD working in a high school. My experience in these two unique environments has given me a perspective that other therapists do not have. I have seen our school systems. I have seen our healthcare system. I have come to the conclusion that overall health, especially mental health, is not prioritized in our society, and I want to help change that. Our world is hurting and it’s time we start tending to our emotions, befriending them, and learning that we can overcome truly any challenge we are faced with.
Since beginning my journey as a therapist in 2017 and becoming licensed in 2019, I serve my clients by offering a trauma-informed approach to counseling including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). I also utilize aspects from DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and IFS (Internal Family Systems).
Specialized trainings used to support my clients include EMDR by The Child Trauma Institute, 200-HR yoga teacher certification, and trauma-informed yoga.
In my spare time, I like spending time with my husband and son. We love any type of exercise and being outside. I value authenticity in my personal relationships, as well as with my clients. Expect to hear about pieces of my personal life in therapy, as I believe my clients need to see my humanness in order to pave the way for trust and healing. I began my healing journey over ten years ago and consider myself constantly growing and healing. There is no “finish line” but rather a continuum of learning and growth that gets easier as we become wiser and calmer along the way.
I am currently accepting new clients for in-person and online video counseling.
